Christ Church, Spitalfields
Christ Church, Spitalfields is an Anglican church built between 1714 and 1729 to a design by Nicholas Hawksmoor. Situated on Commercial Street, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, on the eastern border and facing the City of London, it was one of the first (and arguably one of the finest) of the so-called "Commissioners' Churches" built for the Commission for Building Fifty New Churches, which had been established by an Act of Parliament in 1711. Brick Lane Brick Lane (Bengali: ব্রিক লেন) is a long street in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in the East End of London. It runs from Swanfield Street in the northern part of Bethnal Green, crosses Bethnal Green Road, passes through Spitalfields and is linked to Whitechapel High Street to the south by the short stretch of Osborn Street. Today, it is the heart of the city's Bangladeshi-Sylheti community, and is fondly known as Banglatown.[1]. Royal London Hospital The Royal London Hospital was founded in September 1740 and was originally named The London Infirmary (name changed to The London Hospital in 1748 and then to The Royal London Hospital on its 250th anniversary in 1990). The first patients were treated at a house in Featherstone Street, Moorfields in November 1740. In May 1741, the hospital moved to Prescott street, and remained there until 1757 when it moved to its current location on the South side of Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel.
